Dai’s Big Adventure 35-37

 Book 35

The battle agains Vearn continues and all of Dai’s friends have fallen. All that is left is Pop and through teamwork they succeed in destroying his greatest defense taking his left arm and destroying one of his three hearts. However despite the bonds the adventures share it won’t be enough to stop the bombs Vearn has placed across the world. They will soon blow leveling humanity and leaving the world bare for demon kind. If Dai continues his attack Vearn will die but there will be nothing left.

This is the lowest point of the story. Dai has beaten the Demon King but the war is lost all all of his allies  on the ground are dead. What is Dai to do?

Book 36

Dai’s at his lowest point and has all but given up until his best friend Pop inspires him to stand up once more. They had thought their friends on the ground were dead but they had survived thanks to Meruru and she was able to connect to Pop sparking his own courage to stand up against Vearn.

The saddest part of this story was the death of Gome chan. We discovered it was a holy item known as God’s tear and could grant any wish. Dai had wished for a friend and that was what he got. Through the story Pop’s mysterious resurrection, Gome’s powers of healing were explained but he had to go but not before granting one last wish. Linking everyone on the planet they were able to stop Vearn’s towers from exploding and wiping out humanity. However the final battle is about to start and Dai will have to unleash his full potential.

Book 37

This was the final, final fight. Dai verses Vearn. Dai embraced his full destiny as the Dragon knight and finally took the Demon King down. It was a good fight both for Dai and his friends. They had to escape the floating palace and all of their magic was useless. Only Hyunkeru’s Grand Cruss could get them out but he was too beaten to perform it. Luckily Him could do it and survive.

As for Dai’s fight he said goodbye to all his friends, his family and gave his all on one last shot with the sword and it paid off. He split Vearn in two and we watched him drift into the sun. However Dai wasn’t finished yet. He still had to beat Kill Vearn who wasn’t the tall headless puppet but the small comic relief. He was going to do whatever it took to eliminate the heroes but Dai and Pop were able to get rid of the body in a place that harmed no one, except Dai because he pushed Pop away and sacrificed himself. The story ends at Dai’s grave but we find his sword is still shining indicating that he is still alive. Dai will be back.

Just not here. This is the end of the story. It was a fun ride and a I enjoyed reading for the fourth time. It is a perfect example of the heroes journey but gives us a hint that things will continue. This was a long fight, but Shonen Jump manga is notorious for dragging out the battles especially near the end of the story. It’s not a deep story, nor is it a particularly insightful one but it was fun to read and see the growth of the characters as they matured from the selfish beginnings to become the heroes they ended up as.

Fight on.
